This is a very rare, monumental butlers desk or large scale commode in solid oak with incredible hand polished and hand-hewn quarried marble. The piece has been painstakingly gilded and ebonized in a French-polished shellac finish and has a red interior. The piece features two side doors which at one time had adjustable shelves. Take a look at the incredible chunky antique locks, beautiful hand-hewn oak back and oak interior of this incredibly heavy piece. The condition for its over 250 years of age is rather remarkable as the finish appears original and has minor age cracks and yet remains very attractive and fresh. The piece measures an imposing 67 wide x 42 tall x 25 inches deep and will require at least 3 men to move. It's approximately 350lbs. The marble and the case is in good condition and no damage at all to the marble.
Height: 42 in (106.68 cm) Width: 67 in (170.18 cm) Depth: 25 in (63.5 cm)
Wear consistent with age and use. Good original finish with age cracks from expansion that only affect the ebonized surface and not the oak wood. Good bright gilding. No damaga to the original yellow ochre top.
